Holi 2017: Fashion and style tips for women

Posted on 10 March 2017 by GGS News

New Delhi : Wearing old white clothes on Holi is passe. With people becoming increasingly fashion conscious, hot pants, backless blouses and off-shoulder tops in vibrant colours have taken a front seat.

“Yes, there has been a drastic change in the people’s perception towards Holi, especially the younger generation. They want to have fun but not at the cost of losing the glamour quotient,” Delhi-based designer Riddhima Chauhan told IANS.

“Bollywood plays a major role in inspiring these youngsters to go for the trendy way and what could be a better option than showing the sexy curves in figure-hugging dresses,” she added.
Holi songs in movies like Mohabbatein, Waqt – Race Against Time and Action Replayy started this trend where Kim Sharma-Shamita Shetty, Priyanka Chopra and Neha Dhupia respectively brought a revolution in the dress code for Holi.

Style divas are constantly spotted in body-hugging short dresses to skin hugging tights and transparent fabrics at Holi parties and adding glamour to the celebration of colours.

“Light coloured tunics matched with multi-coloured pajamis or ankle length trousers, with chiffon dupattas, are some of the trends which are in vogue. Not only young girls but also married women are trying to get away from their traditional look; so the demand for saris with halter neck and backless blouses has increased,” Delhi-based designer Meera Gupta told IANS.

Mumbai-based designer Digvijay Singh, said: “It is one festival that youngsters look forward to and they leave no stones unturned to flaunt their best side.”

He also felt that people don’t mind showing skin on Holi.

“Skin show is something not too many mind on this occasion. No matter what you wear, eventually you will get drenched,” he said.

For Deeksha Aggarwal, a young girl pursuing her B. Com (H) from Delhi University, it’s all about how you mix both the cultures together.

“With the changing times, skin-revealing garments are no longer the point of discussion. And this is the reason why I am going to wear a Rajasthani lehenga that I will team with a stylish and sexy choli. I will not only manage to keep my parents happy but will also set a trend,” she said.

Raj Kumar from Mathura, a place known for its grand Holi celebrations, said: “Holi is a traditional affair here. Women dress up in Rajasthani lehenga-choli and contrary to the belief that white is an obvious choice for the day, women prefer colourful clothes.”

“The women who come to play Lath Maar Holi from Barsana wear bright and vibrant colours,” added Raj Kumar who has witnessed the changing trends in clothes over the years.

And what about the traditional whites?

Mumbai-based designer duo Nidhi-Divya Gambhir said: “We prefer going the traditional way but with our own contemporary twist to it. Stick to whites, play around the sheer factors… It’s traditional, fun and yet sexy.”
So what should trendy people wear this Holi?

“Holi means a splash of colours, so why stick to the basic white? Colours like raspberry, bubblegum pink, coral, mauve, and electric blue are surely going to make you feel special this Holi. Side cowl, trapeze and tulip can be the best accessories this time,” said Divya Gupta, owner of clubwear brand Yell, which offers a special Holi collection.

Sonu Walia gets obscene calls, videos from unknown person; registers FIR

Posted on 04 March 2017 by GGS News

An unknown person also sent the yesteryear actress several obscene videos.

New Delhi : Yesteryear actress Sonu Walia has registered an FIR against an unknown person for harassing her over the phone. The Bangur Nagar police have booked the accused under sections 354 of IPC and other sections of the IT act.

The 53-year-old actress, who resides in Malad, approached the police on Friday. According to the police, Walia said that the person had made several lewd phone calls to her and sent obscene videos. Walia told the police that the harassment had been going on for a week, and she decided to approach them when it showed no signs of stopping.

Walia, best known for her role in the Rekha and Kabir Bedi starrer Khoon Bhari Maang, warned the unidentified caller, but this only led, she said, to an increase in the frequency of the obscene calls. The person, she said, called her using different numbers. The numbers are not operational at the moment, said Inspector Shirish Gaikwad of Bangurnagar police station.

BJP leader Shaina NC too isn’t spared

BJP leader Shaina NC filed an FIR with the cybercrime cell, alleging that she was being harassed by a person who was sending her lewd and vulgar messages on her cellphone. She told the cops that she had been getting the messages since December, but chose to ignore them till recently. It was only when things ‘went from bad to worse’ in February that she decided to lodge a complaint.

“Through December and January, I chose to ignore the messages. In February it got out of hand. Any self-respecting and dignified woman ought to take such a case up with the cops. I realised that if I kept quiet, the man would continue to harass others,” Shiana told Mirror. Shaina said that she hoped her action would inspire other women to confront their harassers and bring them to book.

“I want to be an inspiration for lakhs of women who face this. Break the silence, fight the violence,” she said.

Akhilesh Singh, DGP Cyber cell, said that an FIR had been registered under section 354 IPC for outraging modesty of a woman, and that further investigation were on. — With inputs from Yogesh Sadhwani

‘India will have maximum Muslims in the world by 2050’

‘India will have maximum Muslims in the world by 2050’

NEW DELHI : Because they have the youngest median age (30) of all religious groups, Muslims are the fastest-growing such group in the world, and by 2050, India will be the country with the world’s largest Muslim population, said American think tank Pew Research Centre, this week.
While Islam is currently the world’s second-largest religion after Christianity, it is now also the fastest-growing major religion. And if current demographic trends continue, the Muslim population is expected to exceed the number of Christians by the end of this century, Pew said.
There were 1.6 billion Muslims in the world as of 2010 – roughly 23% of the global population – according to a Pew estimate. Currently, Indonesia has the world’s largest Muslim population.
In a 2015 report, Pew said that while the world’s population is projected to grow 35 percent in the coming decades, the number of Muslims is expected to increase by 73 percent -to 2.8 billion in 2050. In fact, Muslims are the only major religious group projected to increase faster than the world’s population as a whole, the think tank said. The growth and regional migration of Muslims, combined with the ongoing impact of the Islamic State (also known as ISIS or ISIL) and other extremist groups that commit acts of violence in the name of Islam, have brought Muslims and the Islamic faith to the forefront of the political debate in many countries,” the think tank’s report said.
“Yet many facts about Muslims are not well known in some of these places, and most Americans – who live in a country with a relatively small Muslim population – say they know little or nothing about Islam,” the report added. At 62 percent, a majority of the Muslims globally live in the Asia-Pacific region. This included large populations in Indonesia, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran and Turkey, Pew said. Indonesia is currently the country with the world’s largest Muslim population, but Pew Research Center projects that India will have that distinction by the year 2050, with more than 300 million Muslims.
“The Muslim population in Europe also is growing; we project 10% of all Europeans will be Muslims by 2050,” Pew said. Muslims are expected to grow as a percentage of every region except Latin America and the Caribbean, where relatively few Muslims live, Pew said in 2015 when it first indicated Muslims might be becoming the largest religious group in the world.

Decor tips to get your house summer ready!

Decor tips to get your house summer ready!

Posted on 21 April 2016 by GGS News

New Delhi, 21 April : With the temperature hitting an upward spiral, it is time for you to get your home summer-ready with simple tweaks in decor. From opting for subtle hues, packing away the rugs and rearranging furniture, the house can get a wonderful makeover with a few tips, says an expert.
Rajat Singhi, founder and creative director of Address Home, a luxury home decor brand, lists some hacks for this season.
-Paint your home in a soothing white or a light blue shade to give it a fresh feel. The pantone colours to incorporate into your home this season are rose quartz and serenity. Subtle hues are redefining the colour palette this season.-Summer has always been about pastel colours and floral prints. Change your upholstery and cushion covers to lighter fabrics and cooler prints to give your room a nice summery, breezy vibe.
-There’s nothing as nice as walking barefoot on cold marble or stone during the summer. Remove those heavy rugs and carpets from your living room and give both your home and your feet a chance to breathe.
-Rearrange your furniture to ensure that no one is seated in direct sunlight. Low seated chairs, floor cushions and daybeds make for great alternative seating options too.
-Summer vacations mean a two-month break from school for your kids. Create a small activity area for the children in a relatively cooler corner of the house. You can hang a curtain or use a wooden partition to separate this corner from the rest of the house. Make it a bright place full of toys, books and children’s bean bags so your little ones get their own space and stay occupied at home.
-Bring the greenery in, go natural with lots of potted plants and blooming flower bunches adorning your living and drawing rooms. Potpourri, colorful pebbles and stones, shells and artificial pearls can be used as centerpieces or to decorate the room.
-If you’re an avid hostess and have guests over for dinner on a summer night, use light coloured cutlery, bright napkins and pretty accessories like paper lanterns instead of candles and water-based decorative pieces.
-Another spectacular article to add to your home this summer is a patio swing if you have a big lawn or balcony. Else, even a hammock would be an ideal way to spend leisure time. Incorporate pleasant lighting to the area and place an incense diffuser.
