SANAA : Clashes in Yemen’s capital between Shiite Huthi rebels and loyalists of former president Ali Abdullah Saleh left 14 people dead on Thursday, medics and officials said.

The fighting erupted around Sanaa’s central Saleh mosque, Yemen’s largest, as Huthis tried to seize it ahead of tomorrow’s celebration of the Prophet Mohammed’s birthday, they said.

“The Huthis attempted to take control of the mosque in anticipation of a rally on Thursday” in the adjacent square, said an official from Saleh’s General People’s Congress, asking not to be named.

The mosque’s guards, who were Saleh supporters, resisted, triggering a gunfight between the two camps, the GPC official said.

The shootout then spread to nearby districts controlled by Saleh loyalists.

The official said four Saleh supporters were killed on the spot and a fifth died of his wounds later in hospital.

Nine Huthi fighters also died in the fighting, according to officials at two hospitals in the capital.

Rebel chief Abdulmalik al-Huthi had on Wednesday urged supporters across the country to head to Sanaa for the rally.

For decades sworn enemies, nationalist forces loyal to Saleh and the Iran-backed Shiite Huthis joined ranks in 2014 to drive the government of President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi out of Sanaa.

That prompted a Saudi-led coalition to intervene the following year to prop up Hadi’s government.

The war has since killed some 8,600 people, while a further 2,000 have died of cholera.

Despite a crippling coalition blockade, the Huthis and Saleh’s forces continue to jointly control Sanaa, but tensions between them have escalated since a public dispute in August.

The Huthis accused Saleh of treason after the former president publicly dismissed the Iran-backed rebels as “militias”.

Saleh’s GPC party last month accused the Huthis of waging an “orchestrated campaign” against the former strongman and lacking “the will to maintain partnership”.

The Huthis responded that the GPC had broken its pact by accepting funds from Hadi’s government.

Bigg Boss 11: Hina Khan Demeans Sakshi Tanwar, Sanjeeda Sheikh; Takes Dig at Gauahar Khan’s Popularity

Posted on 30 November 2017 by GGS News

New Delhi : It seems that Bigg Boss 11 contestant Hina Khan has no idea about what she is doing inside the house. Not only has she made a joke of her public reputation but also put her career at stake.

Touted as Indian television industry’s one of the biggest stars, Hina, has left so many people in the state of shock with her rude behaviour and “I, Me and Myself” attitude on the controversial reality show.

In a recent viral video, Hina, who was earlier slammed on social media for dissing South Indian film industry, is now seen taking a dig at her fellow colleagues in the industry. Talking about Gauahar Khan’s popularity on social media, the Ye Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai actress says, “Gauahar ke bahut kum followers hai in fact Mere half se bhi half.” When Vikas Gupta tells Hina that Gauahar might not be that active on social media, she instantly replies, “Even I’m not active.”

Meanwhile, Priyank Sharma tells Hina that he is really worried about the outside scenario. To which Hina says, “You have a PR to handle right? So, wo damage control toh karenge.”

She then discusses actress Sakshi Tanwar’s features with Arshi Khan. When Arshi indirectly says she doesn’t find Sakshi good looking, Hina hints that she feels the Dangal star is cross-eyed.

In fact, Hina doesn’t stop there and goes on to make nasty statement about actress Sanjeeda Sheikh. She says, “Although Sanjeeda is very pretty in real life, she doesn’t look that good on screen.”

Check out the video here:

Hina’s statements have not gone down well with Gauahar, who in a tweet, has once again lashed out at her.

Soon after the video went viral, Twitter blasted Hina for being a “huge disappointment” on the show.

Going by her antics inside the house, it’s more likely that Hina will court controversies even after she comes out of the BB 11 house. The reality show has a mix of celebrity and commoners as contestants. Superstar Salman Khan hosts the show and on ‘Weekend Ka Vaar’ gives them a dose of the real world.

US warns North Korean leadership will be ‘utterly destroyed’ in case of war

Posted on 30 November 2017 by GGS News

Seoul/United Nations : The United States warned North Korea’s leadership it would be “utterly destroyed” if war were to break out, after Pyongyang test fired its most advanced intercontinental ballistic missile, putting the US mainland within range.

The Trump administration has repeatedly said all options were on the table in dealing with North Korea’s ballistic and nuclear weapons program, including military ones, but that it still prefers a diplomatic option.

Still, speaking at an emergency UN Security Council meeting, US ambassador Nikki Haley warned: “We have never sought war with North Korea, and still today we do not seek it. If war does come, it will be because of continued acts of aggression like we witnessed yesterday … And if war comes, make no mistake, the North Korean regime will be utterly destroyed.”

Haley said the United States has asked China to cut off oil supply to North Korea, a drastic step that Beijing — the North’s neighbour and sole major trading partner — has so far refrained from doing. Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping talked on the phone earlier on Wednesday.

“Just spoke to President Xi Jinping of China concerning the provocative actions of North Korea. Additional major sanctions will be imposed on North Korea today. This situation will be handled!” Trump wrote on Twitter.

Previous US administrations have failed to stop North Korea from developing nuclear weapons and a sophisticated missile program. Trump has also struggled to contain Pyongyang since he came to office in January.

Urging China to use its leverage on Pyongyang and promising more sanctions against North Korea are two strategies that have borne little fruit so far.

In a speech in Missouri about taxes, Trump, who has traded insults with the North in the past, referred to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un with a derisive nickname. “Little Rocket Man.

He is a sick puppy,” Trump said.

Far into space
North Korea, which conducted its sixth and largest nuclear bomb test in September, has tested dozens of ballistic missiles under Kim’s leadership in defiance of international sanctions.

Pyongyang has said its weapons programmes are a necessary defence against U.S. plans to invade. The United States, which has 28,500 troops in South Korea as a legacy of the 1950-53 Korean War, denies any such intention.

Russia’s U.N. Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia called on North Korea on Wednesday to stop its weapons tests and for the United States and South Korea not to hold military drills in December as it would “inflame an already explosive situation.” North Korea said the new missile soared to an altitude of about 4,475 km (2,780 miles) – more than 10 times the height of the International Space Station – and flew 950 km (590 miles) during its 53-minute flight.

It flew higher and longer than any North Korean missile before, landing in the sea near Japan.

Photos released by North Korean state media appeared to show a missile being positioned on the launch site by a mobile vehicle, designed to allow the missile to be fired from a wider number of areas to prevent it being intercepted before launch.

Kim is shown laughing and smiling with officials both next to the missile as it is readied, and in a control booth. The launch itself shows the missile lifting off amid smoke and fire, with Kim watching from a field in the distance.

U.S. intelligence analysts have concluded from satellite and other data that the test missile was fired from a fixed position, not a mobile launcher, three U.S. officials said.

One official said the test appears to demonstrate a more powerful North Korean solid-fuel propulsion system, especially in its second stage rocket.

The photos also revealed a larger diameter missile, which could allow it to carry a larger warhead and use a more powerful engine, said David Wright of the Union of Concerned Scientists, a U.S.-based nonprofit science advocacy group.

More sanctions likely
Pyongyang claimed it had “finally realized the great historic cause of completing the state nuclear force”.

Three US intelligence analysts said they were trying to assess whether the remarks meant Kim might now be open to a longer halt in testing in order to reopen negotiations that might help prevent, or at least defer, the imposition of additional sanctions.

The officials also noted, however, that North Korea has not proved it has an accurate guidance system for an intercontinental ballistic missile or a re-entry vehicle capable of carrying a nuclear warhead and surviving a return from space through Earth’s atmosphere, meaning further tests would be needed.

An international meeting in Canada in January is designed to produce “better ideas” to ease tensions over Pyongyang’s nuclear and ballistic missile tests, Canadian officials said on Wednesday, although North Korea itself will not be invited.

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said on Wednesday the United States has “a long list of additional potential sanctions, some of which involve potential financial institutions, and the Treasury Department will be announcing those when they’re ready to roll those out.” The new Hwasong-15, named after the planet Mars, was a more advanced version of an ICBM tested twice in July, North Korea said. It was designed to carry a “super-large heavy warhead”.

In just three months, South Korea hosts the Winter Olympics at a resort just 80 km (50 miles) from the heavily fortified border with North Korea.

Bhansali, Joshi to meet parliamentary panel to discuss ‘Padmavati’

Posted on 30 November 2017 by GGS News

Mumbai  : ‘Padmavati’ director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Central Board of Film Certification chief Prasoon Joshi will appear before a parliamentary panel on Thursday to discuss the controversy surrounding the period drama, sources in the censor board said.
Bhansali left here in the morning for the meeting expected to be held in the afternoon.
“It is true that there is a meeting between the CBFC and Bhansali regarding ‘Padmavati’ called by a parliamentary panel on Thursday,” a source in the censor board said.

The 30-member parliamentary panel on IT has also asked the producers of the movie and officials of the information and broadcasting ministry to attend the meeting and brief it on the furore related to the film.
Officials in Viacom18 Motion Pictures, which has co-produced the film along with Bhansali Productions, refused to comment.
“The panel has asked Bhansali and Joshi to appear before it and present their views on the movie. They can present their case before the panel. The members have also decided to call the producers of the movie,” chairman of the panel Anurag Thakur told PTI on November 28.
Actor-MPs Paresh Rawal and Raj Babbar are also part of the panel.
Various Rajput groups and political leaders have accused Bhansali of distorting history in the movie by using a romantic dream sequence between the Rajput queen Padmini and Sultan Alauddin Khilji, a claim repeatedly denied by the filmmaker.
Historians are divided over whether Padmini actually existed.
The Deepika Padukone-Shahid Kapoor-Ranveer Singh film was earlier scheduled to release on December 1. The makers have deferred the release till they receive a certificate from the CBFC. They recently applied for 3D certification.

Challenges before the new SGPC head Longowal include restoring credibility of Sikh institutions, ensuring transparency

Posted on 30 November 2017 by GGS News

Amritsar : One-time staff of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) presidents have had remarkable luck with political power. The list got an addition on Wednesday as Gobind Singh Longowal, 60, who once used to drive a car for Harchand Singh Longowal and was his foster son, was elected president of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).

Also on the list are Zora Singh Mann, a driver of Parkash Singh Badal, who made it to the Lok Sabha; and Balwant Singh Ramoowalia, who was PA to Harchand Longowal and made it to the Union cabinet.

Gobind’s political career started with the 1985 assembly polls, when a screening committee of the SAD comprising Badal wanted to give a ticket to someone else but former chief minister Surjit Singh Barnala decided to allot it to Gobind as he was “adopted as a son” by Harchand Longowal, who had died.

Gobind won on debut. Later, as a minister in the SS Barnala-led Akali government, now-CM Captain Amarinder Singh made him chairman of state agency Markfed.

In Badal camp

Gradually, as Badal emerged more powerful in Akali politics, Gobind left the others and sided with him. Essentially, as Harchand Longowal, a bachelor, was killed, Gobind emerged as his political heir because his family was not politically active and continues to live a modest life away from the limelight. Gobind is married and has a son and a daughter.

Ads by MK FILMS

He lost in 1992, but was elected again to the assembly in 1997, upon which he became a minister of state for irrigation in the Badal government. He won in 2002, then lost in 2007 and 2012. After Congress MLA Arvind Khanna left the party and the assembly, Gobind won from the bypoll from Dhuri in 2015. This time, though, he lost from Sunam.

Commenting on Gobind’s personality during election rallies for the Dhuri bypoll two years ago, Amarinder said he had always remained “ungrateful to his masters”. “Sant-ji (Harchand Longowal) adopted him and brought him up. However, when he was shot dead, Gobind didn’t even give a statement to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against his killers. Is he worthy of the legacy?” Amarinder had said, underlining that Gobind had left him and Surjit Barnala, too, to side with the Badals.

Despite dera

Observers believe that, in the Badal-dominated Panthic politics of the SAD, the lower your individual political weight, the higher your chances of rising to positions virtually handed out by them. Except Gurcharan Singh Tohra, all SGPC presidents in the recent past have been propped up by the Badals. This time, Gobind was a lightweight among the probables that included former SGPC chiefs Avtar Singh Makkar and Jagir Kaur, besides former ministers Sewa Singh Sekhwan and Tota Singh.

A Jat Sikh, Gobind is from Sangrur in central Malwa, where the Akalis and Congress suffered a rout at the hands of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) early this year. It is apparent, thus, that Badal chose a Jat Sikh over Arora-Sikh Makkar and incumbent Kirpal Singh Badungar, to strengthen base among this community, which is considered a traditional vote bank of the SAD.

On Wednesday, his loyalty to the Badals paid off, despite the fact that he was among politicians who had approached Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda for votes ahead of this year’s assembly elections and was meted out religious punishment for violation of the Akal Takht edict against the sect.

Gujarat polls: Rahul propagating ‘grand stupid thought’ on GST, says Modi

Posted on 29 November 2017 by GGS News

Morbi (Gujarat) : Continuing his high decibel campaign in poll-bound Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday attacked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for calling GST ‘Gabbar Singh Tax’ and said those who looted the country could only think of dacoits. In a stinging rebuttal to Gandhi’s repeated criticism of the Goods and Services Tax, a key economic reform of the NDA government, Modi said a recently emerged “economist” was propagating a “grand stupid thought” by suggesting that GST rate be capped at 18 per cent.

Making a fresh bid for power in his home state, where the BJP has ruled for over two decades, Modi also listed various development works by the government on water conservation, agriculture and development of the Saurashtra region.

Addressing a huge rally in Morbi town in the region, which goes to polls in the first phase on December 9, he accused the Congress of taking credit for minor schemes, like providing hand-pumps, while saying that the BJP rule brought in major works like the Narmada project.

Making a strong appeal to the people to vote for the BJP in this Patidar community stronghold, Modi said his party should not be voted out for 100 years.

“Today, some so called smart people, some new economists have emerged who are misleading people,” he declared in his speech in Gujarati.

“Those who have looted people throughout their life, they can only remember dacoits,” Modi said in a reply to Gandhi’s ‘Gabbar Singh Tax’ jibe, recalling the iconic villain from the Bollywood blockbuster “Sholay”.

He said Gandhi was propagating a ‘grand stupid thought’ in the name of GST, telling people that they will slash all tax rates and make it 18 per cent.

This means 18 per cent tax on salt and 18 per cent tax on luxury cars costing Rs 5 crore, he noted.

“What kind of smartness is this… how has such an economist emerged here. You want to make goods used by the poor like clothes, footwear and food costlier and you want to make cigarettes and liquor cheaper,” he said, ripping into the “anti poor” Congress over its criticism of the tax reform.

The Prime Minister went on to say that making cigarettes cheaper means bringing cancer in every home and asked which rich businessmen the opposition leader sought to benefit by making liquor cheaper.

He also brought up Rahul Gandhi’s grandmother, the late Indira Gandhi.

(Follow 7Star GGS NEWS on Facebook; and Twitter @7Starggsnews)

Recalling the Macchu dam flood tragedy of 1979 in Morbi, Modi said he had spent one month working in the town after the disaster as an RSS and Jan Sangh worker.

“I remember then prime minister Indira Gandhi had come here and Chitralekha (a local language magazine) had printed her photo with a handkerchief over her nose, trying to avoid the stench, while another photo on the same front page had RSS workers carrying dead bodies,” he said.

“Those who have helped us in times of difficulties should be remembered,” he added.

Modi then went on to list how his government had worked to bring waters from the Narmada to the parched regions of Saurashtra and Kutch.

“The Congress’ development model was giving hand-pumps.

“For the BJP it is the SAUNI scheme (the Narmada water project for Saurashtra region), where we will fill dams of Saurashtra through huge pipelines.”

The culture of this parched land, Modi said, was to give respect to those who have tried to do something to provide water.

“The BJP has done many things and it should not be thrown out of power in the state for the next 100 years,” Modi said.

Rahul Gandhi is also in Gujarat today and tomorrow and is expected to address multiple rallies.

Modi had on Monday pushed the BJP’s campaign in his home state into a high gear by addressing four back-to-back rallies.

Elections to the 182-member Gujarat Assembly will be held in two phases on December 9 and 14. The votes will be counted on December 18.
